We’ve decided to do a small theme of reviews of movies based on video games; but not some of the most recent video games, and none of those shit movies by Uwe Boll. We’re talking about the first view movies where some fat cat thought that making a big budget flick off the success of a best-selling game was where the money was at. It’s true that these movies brought in a ton of cash, but they weren’t always as good as they should have been, or in some cases good at all. Every big name game franchise has a potential movie tied to it now a days, but we’re going back to the mid-nineties, in the Nintendo/Super Nintendo era, to bring you a few flicks you might have forgotten about, or made yourself forget about! So go grab some 1-up mushrooms and we’ll go find the rest of the Triforce together.
We’d also like to know what movies based on games you like, or would like to see made.

Prince of Persia is by far the best, although it still has a lot of problems. It’s stays true to the sourse though, which is more than most video game movies do. Silent Hill also stayed somewhat true to the sourse, but it just wasn’t done right. It was to stylized to be scary, which is a shame because the Silent Hill games are the scariest form of entertainment I have ever witnessed with my beady little nerd eyes. Mortal Kombat also, stays true to the story, but isn’t delivered in the way it should have been…however, it’s a much better “Fighting Game” film than Street Fighter, Tekken, and King of Fighters combined. “Where’s my Super Smash Brother’s movie?!?!”
The worst ones, obviously, are Mario Brothers and anything directed by Uwe Boll.
Also, Paul W.S. Anderson can suck it, for ruining Resident Evil for me. I can’t even play the games anymore due to his Milla Jovovich loving ass (although, Operation Raccoon City looks AMAZING!!!). The Resident Evil series may be popular enough to go down as the best (money making-wise) video game movie franchise, but it should have been aborted before being concieved. At least Uwe Boll makes bad video game movies, based off of bad video games…ugh…nerd-rage headache.
Lastly, Conan O’brien should have played Blanka in the Street Fighter movie. See what I mean. ————–>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdFPVhkWcCE
You should definitely review “The Wizard” with Fred Savage, Lucas Haas, and the Power Glove. I mean, it’s not an adaptation of a video game, but it IS a video game movie!
It very nearly is THE Video Game movie.
Max Payne and Tekken for based off. And While not based off, there was Nightmares with Emilio Estevez, the Last Starfighter, and Tron.
not to be contrary, but Last Starfighter wasn’t a movie based on a game, same as Tron, the games came from the movies. ;}
Potatoes!
In the theme of games, does it HAVE to be Video?
Gimmeh Dungeons and Dragons, non animated.
they fucking need to do a God of War movie.
