The Devil Inside (2012)
Isabella Rossi is making a documentary about exorcisms and hopes that by doing so she can find out what happened to he mother; who 20 years ago, killed three people during her exorcism. She is granted access to a class at the Vatican that teaches the process, and in there, meets two priests: David, who is a board-certified doctor, and Ben who has preformed many exorcisms. The pair work together, without the consent or the knowledge of the church; to help those possessed people whom the church didn’t not show a strong enough case for an exorcism.
They agree to take a look at her mom, who is clearly possessed, but has just been pumped full of drugs and hidden away for two decades in an asylum. They try to perform a hasty exorcism and discover multiple demons inside her, who somehow have jumped into those present during the ritual. Can Ben overcome his personal demons to battle these very real ones?
Alex’s Thoughts: I have sort of had my fill with exorcism movies as of late, so I wasn’t sure I would like this one, or even be able to finish it. Luckily it wasn’t as bad as the reviews made it seem and there were some pretty good effects and a decent plot to follow. It is a found footage movie, which is wearing pretty thin on me, as every horror movie we’ve seen lately seems to be more of the same; so that is a little disappointing. It’s probably in the top half of the possession/exorcism I’ve seen, and if you are into that genre, give it a watch. Alex Rates This Movie 6/10
Tim’s Thoughts:I think this may be one of the better found footage movies that have come out recently. It is pretty well acted, and while there’s nothing too original, it doesn’t try to over explain, and it moves at a nice pace. I am going to rate this a bit higher, because there is a scene in this movie that will stick with me for a long time, and with all the movies we’ve watched, I really think feel that something that upsetting warrants special credit. It’s no Exorcist, but let’s be honest, nothing ever will be, but out of all of it’s grandchildren this is one of the better ones. Tim Rates This Movie 7/10
